Despite earlier suggestions that Ange Postecoglou would not join Spurs, he now looks primed to join the North London club
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur is expected to hold additional talks with Ange Postecoglou. The Australian currently manages Scottish giants Celtic who face off against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup Final on June 3rd. Should The Bhoys win, it will complete the domestic treble for the club this campaign.
Romano states that Postecoglou as of now is the leading candidate to become the next manager of Tottenham. Nothing is close to being finalized and the club still holds interest in former Spain manager Luis Enrique.
It’s safe to say that Spurs’ managerial hunt has been nothing short of a disaster. After previously targeting Julian Naglesman, the club moved on to Feyenoord’s Arne Slot who seemed destined to join Tottenham. Recently, the Dutch manager re-signed with the recent Eredivisie champions, ending any interest from abroad. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi was also previously linked but it is difficult to see why he would leave the south coast club which will be in the Europa League next season.
Tottenham not being in any European competition next season has surely put a damper on efforts to recruit the managers listed above.
Ange Postecoglou was brought to Celtic in June 2021 after Neil Lennon was sacked near the end of the previous season. Since his arrival, the club has won back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and Scottish League Cups. Some could say that Postecoglou took the road less travelled, having previously managed multiple A-League clubs, the Australia National Team itself and J-League side Yokohama F. Marinos. Born in Greece, Postecoglou grew up in Australia and went on to make senior appearances for the Socceroos.
A great analysis from The Coaches Voice shows that most of Postecoglou’s sides play in a 4-3-3 formation.
