Newcastle United are not to be taken lightly in the summer transfer window. Given their qualification for the Champions League, their new shirt sponsor which is yet to be announced and of course, the new owners, they’ll be competing with the big dogs. Having finished fourth behind Manchester United in third, it’s been a terrific season for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe plans to build on his side’s impressive season where they defied all their odds. To do so, he requires financial backing from the board which he will certainly get.

Newcastle make contact with Manchester United target

The Mirror has stated that Newcastle United will receive a windfall of over £100m, which will be invested straight back into the squad. The report states that this money is already in motion, with Newcastle making contact with the agents of Victor Osimhen about a potential signing.

The Napoli forward is valued at around £130m, with the Serie A title winners understood to be standing firm on their stance. Therefore, it will take some strict negotiations should Newcastle wish to be smart with their money.

Speaking of being smart, to me, this move doesn’t make sense. Of course, Eddie Howe knows much more than me but looking at this situation as a neutral, it does beg the question of whether Newcastle actually need to sign a striker.

The Magpies have Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson who both do a great job as strikers. Collectively, the pair has scored 28 goals in the Premier League. Although, Howe potentially has Wilson’s age at the back of his head since he is 31 years old and not getting any younger. In this case, it would make sense to sign Osimhen to secure the long-term future in this position.

Do you think Newcastle United are right to hijack Man United’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen?
