After Brighton blocked the move for Moises Caicedo to join Arsenal in January, the Seagulls expect the Gunners to pay their £75m valuation in the summer transfer window. This is according to Football Transfers, who reveal Brighton’s master plan all along.
Earlier today, The Top Flight stated that this summer, Roberto De Zerbi will allow Moises Caicedo to leave. This is following the agreement the two had in January, whereby De Zerbi persuaded Caicedo to stay at the Amex Stadium, stating back then that he would allow Caicedo to leave in summer if the right offer came in.
For Arsenal, it’s a long midfield shortlist with Moises Caicedo being one of the options. Of course, their priority is Declan Rice. However, with Bayern Munich showing a keen interest in signing Rice and being more efficient about it than Arsenal, Caicedo is the more budget-friendly option who should be less hassle to sign.
Caicedo is an elite number 8, but so is Rice. Therefore, signing them both makes no sense unless one of them is able to adapt. Of the two midfielders, I would say Rice is the most adaptable and could fit a more attacking role, perhaps similar to that which Xhaka played throughout this season, making runs in behind and laying off the attackers.
For Brighton, they won’t miss Caicedo too much. As important as he has been to them, Roberto De Zerbi is already working hard behind the scenes to make his replacement transitions much smoother.
It’s thought that Mahmoud Dahoud will be bought to the Amex Stadium to replace Caicedo. Dahoud is a player with similar capabilities and traits to Caicedo, therefore he’ll perform well under Roberto De Zerbi. Time will tell, though, where Caicedo ends up next season.
Where do you think Moises Caicedo will be playing next season?
