When Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Chelsea, he’s going to inherit a mess. I don’t think I’m putting my neck on the line when I say that – the club is toxic from the board down to the players. However, fans should be hopeful because Pochettino has been a success at clubs with far less talent than Chelsea possess.
There will be wholesale changes, though. Not only because of the club’s desperate attempts to make them less noticeable to Financial Fair Play, but also because there are players who just don’t belong at a club the size of Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t want Joao Felix at Chelsea
We revealed earlier today that Mauricio Pochettino is not a big fan of Joao Felix. Currently at Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid, Poch isn’t going to make this a home for the Portugal attacking midfielder.
Instead, Pochettino wants to look at other options. Whether this be in the transfer market or promoting youth into the squad, Felix will be replaced when the Argentine takes the helm.
Mauricio Pochettino wants Ben Chilwell to be key to Chelsea
Although, it’s not all tyrannical. There are some Blues players who Pochettino likes and wants to build his team around – Ben Chilwell being the main player.
According to The Mirror, Ben Chilwell is the perfect solution for Pochettino as he looks to adopt a back four approach at Stamford Bridge. Playing on the right-hand side of defence, fans know exactly what Chilwell possesses both going forward and defending.
What we already know from Poch’s vast experience in the Premier League is that he likes to promote youth players and has developed some incredible young talents during his time. Therefore, with Chilwell entering his prime, his experience will be key to developing younger players in the defence such as Levi Colwill.
