Having already kissed goodbye to any hopes of signing Ruben Neves, Arsenal fans won’t be happy to hear that ANOTHER Premier League midfielder has turned down the opportunity to play under Mikel Arteta. What’s worse is that he turned them down to play under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United instead.
Mason Mount rejects Arsenal for Manchester United
The player I’m referring to this time is Mason Mount. Arsenal have shown some interest in Mount ever since it became clear he wanted to leave Chelsea this summer. However, according to The Independent, Mount is hoping for a move to Manchester United, despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
Mount sees Erik ten Hag’s style of play as the one which is best suited to him and his needs. Furthermore, United have provided a greater development plan to Mount. Therefore, Mount’s decision to join Manchester United does make sense.
United will be back in the Champions League next season, a competition which Mount would like to play in. Ageing at 24 years old, Mount has impressively already won the competition, so any slight chance he can get at adding to his trophy cabinet is what will attract him the most.
Mount has a better chance of getting into United’s team. Of course, all three of Arsenal, Liverpool and United need midfielders, but it is only United who need to sign an attacking number 8 midfielder. Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard so Mount would be just backup, and Liverpool hardly deploy a number 8.
I also feel like Mount’s choice could’ve been altered by his affiliation with Chelsea. Being a boyhood Blue, he’d be going against everything he believes in by signing for their London rivals. Of course, United are league rivals, but there isn’t as much hatred for United as there is for Arsenal.
What do you make of Mason Mount’s decision to reject Arsenal for Manchester United?
