Liverpool will close out a strange Premier League campaign at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday against the already-relegated Southampton on the final matchday.

After pushing Manchester City all the way in the title race last season, the Reds slipped up big time this term and are set to finish only fifth.

However, their form in recent weeks has improved, winning seven of their last eight games, although all of them came in a row before drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa in their last top-flight match.

With Europa League secured, Jurgen Klopp’s side have nothing at stake here but will look to end their season on a high. This could see the German play a fairly strong lineup on Sunday.

Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper Alisson could start in goal as the Brazilian hopes to end the season with a 15th clean sheet.

In defense, the in-form Trent Alexander-Arnold is indispensable, while Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk will be the centre-backs. At the left-back position, Andrew Robertson could miss out with an injury with Kostas Tsimikas taking his position instead.

Outgoing midfielders James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could make their final start for Liverpool here before leaving Anfield in the summer, with Fabinho operating from the holding midfield role.

Leading the line for the Reds would be Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz. Salah is aiming to hit the 20-goal mark in the Premier League for the third year running while Firmino will be seen in Liverpool colours for the final time before he departs. Signing off with a goal or two will be the perfect farewell.

Southampton would want to cause an upset here but Liverpool have beaten them in 10 of their last 11 meetings in the Premier League, while the Reds have won their final game of the season in the last five years in a row too.
