West Ham United may replace Declan Rice with former Arsenal hothead
By Kian Long
One name who is going to dominate the rest this summer is Declan Rice. It’s believed that the West Ham United midfielder will finally get his move away from the Hammers, after spending his whole life there. There are a multitude of clubs who are interested in signing him, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
According to The Guardian, Manchester United have recently stepped up their interest in Rice, but they are yet to overtake Arsenal as the favourites.
Declan Rice is known for his domineering midfield presence. His ball-carrying ability is what sets him apart from the rest, since he likes to compete in midfield battles and bring the ball forward with his lengthy stride and dribbling ability. Many think this makes him the perfect Mikel Arteta-type midfielder.
As far as West Ham are concerned, they obviously don’t want to lose their best player. However, they must accept the reality that it’s more than likely going to happen. With that being said, they’ve devised a smart plan.
West Ham locate ex Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi to replace Declan Rice
According to The Mirror, West Ham have located Matteo Guendouzi, currently of Marseille, as the perfect replacement for Declan Rice should he leave this summer. Ironically, West Ham may bring in an ex-Arsenal midfielder to replace their own who will likely join Arsenal.
But the interest does make sense. Not only is Guendouzi a more experienced professional ageing at 24 years old, but he’s Premier League experienced. Having played in a multitude of huge games, including the Europa League final and the World Cup final, he’s really had to mature this early in his career and he now enters his prime stage.
When he last featured in the Premier League, Guendouzi was known to lose his head a lot and was difficult to manage due to his temper. However, he’s had this knocked out of him in France and will arrive back in London eager to learn.
