Liverpool have been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister this summer and have now been handed a major transfer boost.

After reportedly being in the race for the Argentine, Chelsea have cooled off their interest, according to football.london, with the Reds stepping up their pursuit.

The Blues have been impressed with Mac Allister’s sensational rise to prominence with the southern outfit this season but won’t be going ahead with their pursuit.

This leaves their Anfield rivals in the leading position to sign the 24-year-old, who reportedly wants to leave Brighton this summer despite a memorable campaign.

With 55 points from 33 games, the Seagulls are in seventh position of the Premier League table and competing to secure a European place.

Mac Allister, who was also a part of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph last December, has scored 10 league goals thus far, including a 99th-minute winner against Manchester United recently.

There’s an understandable interest in the midfielder and Liverpool could go all out in their hopes to materialize a move for him as the club looks to reinforce their midfield.

Old guards like James Milner and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, as well as Naby Keita and Arthur, are all reportedly set to leave the Anfield this summer in free transfers.

This will leave a gaping hole in the midfield department which Jurgen Klopp will look to cement, and Mac Allister is likely to become their first acquisition of summer 2023.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported last Sunday that a deal could be signed early with Liverpool submitting their bid. The transfer could be confirmed as soon as this month or in June.

Mac Allister has been offered a five-year contract until 2028.

Liverpool are reportedly chasing Mason Mount too as the Chelsea star’s future is currently up in the air. He only has one more year left on his contract, and although the Blues are looking to extend it, a departure from Stamford Bridge is a possibility too.

He’s valued at £70 million by Chelsea, but the Reds will look to reduce the price.
