Over 20 years ago James Milner made his Premier League debut with Leeds United and it is looking likely he will play another season of Premier League football

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Brighton Hove & Albion are interested in signing James Milner as a free agent from Liverpool. Milner’s contract of course expires this summer and amid an expected overhaul of Liverpool’s midfield, Milner’s time with the Reds is coming to an end. Ornstein also reports that newly promoted Burnley are also interested in signing Milner. Any Premier League club is not officially allowed to make contact with Milner until the season has come to an end.

James Milner at 37 years old is the fourth oldest active Premier League player. He also sits third all-time in Premier League appearances and very well could pass Ryan Giggs next season, should he not retire. In his storied career, Milner began playing senior football with Leeds United. Milner also had lengthy stints with both Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

In 2011 Milner moved to Manchester City where he went on to win two Premier League titles in 5 seasons with the club. His silverware at City also included one FA Cup and EFL Cup. His Liverpool resume is even more impressive, with an FA Cup, EFL Cup, Premier League title and Champions League title.

Milner with age has of course slowed down and thus played a smaller role with Liverpool. What has helped Milner stay at the top level so long is his ability to be play a multidue of positions. During his career, his main position is central midfield but Milner has a fair share of games as both a wide midfielder and fullback.

Brighton are reportedly enticed by the propistion of bringing in Milner to be an experienced player. Brighton may very well qualify for Europe and it makes sense to bring in someone who can be leader and has European experience. Additionally, that sort of versatliy can prove important with an increase number of fixtures should they see European nights next season.
