Arsenal have had a good season overall. They may be disappointed from the previous couple of weeks (and rightly so), however, there are positives to take. One factor to their downfall which is simply inexcusable, though, is their inability to recover from injury setbacks, namely the injury to William Saliba.
Rob Holding does well against small teams but in recent matches, in particular against Manchester City in that do or die match, Holding was a complete and utter liability. The consolation goal didn’t make up for it. But what’s good is that Arsenal are addressing this problem, not just sticking by a player who has cost them the Premier League.
According to Express, the Gunners are interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. If the 22-year-old is happy to play a squad rotation role, then there’ll be a place for him in the squad next season under Mikel Arteta.
Guehi has shown impressive development this season and is ready to take the next step up in his career. While it’s argued that moving to the bench for a bigger team isn’t a step up, playing in the Champions League is an invaluable possibility for any player.
Crystal Palace have a project of their own going on, having improved in recent weeks. Roy Hodgson has completely turned the club around since his arrival and even pushed them ahead of Chelsea in the table. What’s most notable about Hodgson’s revamp is his work with players on a one-to-one basis. He wouldn’t like to see Guehi leave the club after what they’ve achieved together, but that’s just part of what happens as a selling club.
Guehi has featured in the starting eleven for Crystal Palace in an impressive 97% of their matches. Also, being under contract until 2026 could mean it takes some convincing for Palace to sell one of their best and most important players.
