Arsenal: The 4 midfielders Mikel Arteta wants to sign this summer

Arsenal have played the majority of this season very well. They’ve been the best team in the Premier League for a consistent time period throughout this season, however, in recent matches they have lost form and essentially handed the title to rivals Manchester City.

I would argue it is a lack of midfield depth which has cost the Gunners. A lot of their play runs through the midfield channel and when the opposing team sus them out, they don’t have much in the way of a plan B from the bench. Only Jorginho and Fabio Vieira can come on, neither of them having the cutting edge to change a game around.

Thankfully, the Gunners have the summer transfer window coming up and a chance to rectify the downfall which they have noticed.

Trusted Arsenal journalist David Ornstein of the Athletic has mentioned the four midfielders who he believes Arsenal will try to sign in the summer. Here they are, courtesy of Daily Cannon.

1. Declan Rice

Declan Rice is the most obvious name and everyone’s favourite to potentially come in and fix the midfield dilemma at the Emirates Stadium. According to Ornstein, Rice is just one of two options which the Arsenal recruitment team sees as beneficial in the #6 role.

This is the role which Thomas Partey resides in at the moment, but bringing in Rice could either add a partnership for Partey which would only make him flourish more, or it would bring a level of healthy competition and depth to the Arsenal team. Either way, signing Rice would be a win and it helps that he’s home grown with plenty of Premier League experience.
