Real Madrid and Chelsea went head to head in the most recent Champions League match at the Santiago Bernabeu. It was a game which Real Madrid won rather comfortably, but many expected Los Blancos to tear the Blues a new one.

Chelsea fielded a back-three for the first time under Frank Lampard and it served them well on the most-part, except for one key downfall. Reece James didn’t play too well, admittedly facing more pressure after his counterpart Ben Chilwell was given marching orders.

Reece James was completely outplayed by the generational talent which is Vinicius Junior. It’s not the first time the Brazil international has played well against English competition in the Champions League this season.

However, rather than looking at Reece James as an easy opponent, the Real Madrid camp were clearly impressed by him. According to the Daily Mail, they’re prepared to make a fresh bid for James in the summer transfer window, if Chelsea are forced into selling players this summer which is highly likely given their inflated squad.

I must admit, the move does make sense. Reece James, despite his obvious injury downfalls, is an exceptional player. He might not have had the best night against Vini but let’s face it – Who has this season?

Reece James is going to be the subject of a lot of transfer talk this summer. Despite only signing a new deal at the start of this season, he is just 23 years old and part of a growing Chelsea squad where he might feel like he doesn’t fit in anymore. As a developing player with the right mindset, you would naturally want to leave that toxic club as soon as possible.

Where do you think Reece James will be playing next season, if he doesn’t remain at Chelsea, that is?
