When you think of the Arsenal lineup for each match, the first name on the team sheet is ALWAYS Aaron Ramsdale and that’s not just because he’s the goalkeeper. It’s because he’s the most important player, having proved that in the final ten minutes against Liverpool last weekend.

This is all well and good for Ramsdale but with the Gunners not out of all cup competitions, it doesn’t make good viewing for Matt Turner. Despite playing every minute of action for the USMNT at the most recent World Cup, even keeping a clean sheet against Ramsdale’s England, it’s unlikely he’ll play another minute for the rest of this season. Touch wood, there are no injuries or suspensions to Ramsdale.

However, the USA shot-stopper has finally come out to have his say. According to CBS (via Football London), Turner has praised boss Mikel Arteta for being respectful and says he cannot blame the boss for putting him on the bench given the great season Ramsdale is having. He also said that Ramsdale and him benefit each other in training.

One of the best things about Arsenal so far this season is the sense of togetherness within their squad. Turner would be in the right position to complain or be frustrated about his lack of game time as he’s proven to be a good goalkeeper himself when called upon. However, he wants the team to do the best they can and is prepared to stay on the bench if that’s what it takes to succeed.

Next season, Turner will get a fresh start to impress the boss. I’m sure he will start in many pre-season matches and in the cup competitions when they come around. But he is aware, that Ramsdale has big boots to fill, and even bigger gloves.

Do you think Matt Turner stands a chance next season?
