Arsenal have their full attention on the league table right now. While the summer transfer window remains a marker for progress from a Gunners perspective, Mikel Arteta isn’t thinking too much about that. It’s a good job the recruitment team are, though.
Fabrizio Romano, who was the bearer of great news and bad news in January, has today confirmed on his podcast that Arsenal want to sign Moises Caicedo. Despite signing a new deal with Brighton, Romano thinks Caicedo is still bound to leave in the summer, with Arsenal one of the clubs that remain interested.
And understandably so. The final week of the January transfer window was filled with stories about Caicedo to Arsenal, with many thinking he would join his former teammate Leandro Trossard in helping the Gunners to lift the trophy.
However, due to some immense transfer blocking from Brighton, the deal didn’t go ahead, and Caicedo was essentially forced into signing a new deal. Say what you want, but there’s no way a player can go from pushing for a move to wanting to stay in the matter of days. His dreams to progress to a bigger club were stunted by Brighton.
But if this news is to be believed, then Arsenal would be getting a stellar player. There’s a reason why the Gunners were so keen to sign in the winter. He’s an elite ball-playing midfielder who thrives in most areas of the pitch.
The Gunners still need to sign a midfielder, despite panic buying Jorginho. Jorginho has been good in some of the matches he’s played but he’s still very much a short-term option. Ideally, Arsenal would like someone like Caicedo or Declan Rice to come in for the long-term.
Where do you think Moises Caicedo will be playing next season, if not in Brighton?
