Arsenal are in the market for a new midfield signing – this we know for sure. Despite signing Jorginho on deadline day in the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta is not yet satisfied with the options he has in the midfield. Mohamed Elneny is out injured until next season and Jorginho was certainly a short-term option, therefore, the Gunners must assess their options.
But one of those options could be ruled out in the coming days. A new report has claimed that one of the midfielders on Arsenal’s shortlist is set to receive a new contract offer from his club and it’s a club he values dearly.
According to The Sun, Wolves are set to table a fresh contract offer for Ruben Neves. The 26-year-old Portugal international has been linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United.
As far as Arsenal are concerned, this isn’t the end of the world for them. Granted, it’s a blow to their plans, but they have other options who they would value more anyway. We know that Declan Rice has been the priority signing for some time now, so that’s not due to change any time soon. Neves was simply a cheaper option in case the pursuit for Rice fell through.
For the time being, Mikel Arteta has nothing on his mind except fighting for the Premier League title. It’s going to be a tough run-in, with Manchester City in flying form. The aim is to win the remaining games, not dropping points, to secure the title. It’s a tough ask, but it has to be done if City are to be beaten to the title.
Despite the impressive season, a new midfielder is very much needed. Even if only for depth purposes, adding some more quality to this position is necessary.
Who do you think Arsenal will sign in the summer transfer window?
