Manchester United have been forced into making an assured decision about Marcus Rashford, given their quick fixture turnaround. They face Sevilla on Thursday, with the English talisman being taken off against Everton due to a concerning groin injury.

According to the Mirror, Erik ten Hag has made the decision to not include Rashford in the squad when Manchester United face Sevilla in the Europa League. Although the injury is not thought to be too serious, it’s a precautionary decision as the manager won’t want to see his top goalscorer sidelined for any longer than he has to.

The Europa League is a chance for Manchester United to extend their success so far this season. After winning the Carabao Cup already, Erik ten Hag has proven to be quite the mastermind in English cup competition. Rashford has been key to United’s progress in the Europa League so far, but it does give other places the chance to sign.

For example, Wout Weghorst, who came on as a substitute in the previous match against Everton. He’s been on the verge of first-team football for some time now, with the Europa League proving to be a fruitful competition for him so far.

Erik ten Hag is assured in his squad depth, so he doesn’t need to risk injuring Rashford any more. Since the turn of the World Cup, Rashford has been United’s best player and one of the best in the Premier League.

Although it seems like a long-shot, let’s not forget that United could still challenge for the Premier League title. Although, more realistically they’d like to secure top four. While Sevilla are no pushovers, Ten Hag rightly values the push for Premier League success higher than Europa League.
