Frank Lampard has just been revealed as the new caretaker manager at Chelsea until the end of the season. The news comes after the Blues were hunting a replacement for Graham Potter, although it only looks like a temporary solution as managers are still in the pipeline.

Lampard hasn’t exactly received a standing ovation. When you’re taking over a club in the position and state that Potter left it in, it takes a world-class manager to come in and win the supporters straight away. Unfortunately, Lampard isn’t one of those world class managers who could do that. Instead, it’s been a 50/50 reception.

Todd Boehly is certainly happy to unveil Lampard, as he’s a big fan of his passion for the club. Of course, though, like with anything Boehly does, the decision has been heavily scrutinised by a section of the fanbase.

With not many games left of the season, the decision makes sense in my opinion. If a manager is to come in and take charge, then he’ll want to have a transfer window to work with (since we know for certain they’d be given backing by the board). They’d also want a fresh start on the league table since, let’s face it, no manager will push for the top four at this stage of the season.

As per usual, Twitter was the best place to be to decipher the Lampard in from the Lampard out brigade. Yep, without even manging a single game during this stint, there are some fans who want him out already.

Chelsea fans react to Frank Lampard taking charge

“Circus” is quite a fair depiction of what the club looks like from the outside right now.

Was the only reason Boehly picked Lampard because of his obedience?

Wasn’t a great stint, was it?

“Joke”, “Circus”, there’s a theme here.

Do you think appointing Frank Lampard as caretaker manager is good or bad business by Todd Boehly?
