Spurs are fourth in the Premier League table which, surely, you’d think is meeting their expectations. However, elsewhere they have failed to appease the fans and meet board expectations. For that reason, Antonio Conte is thought to be close to losing the job at the helm of the North London club.
Of course, this has resulted in a media frenzy of different outlets offering their opinions on who they think will replace the Italian tactician. One name who has, unsurprisingly, been thrown around is former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. However, many are quick to brush this claim aside, since it’s unlikely the board would go back to him this early.
According to Sky Sports (via Football Transfer Tavern), Spurs players have took it among themselves to contact Poch, who they want to replace Conte. It’s thought that Poch himself would take the job back if he was offered it.
This would obviously go down well with the fans. They love Pochettino for all he achieved at the club. Obviously, he never won any trophies, but the fans don’t expect the club to win trophies since they are inherently a losing club. At least Poch achieved a good mentality shift and pushed them up the table.
Poch is also a great man-manager. He specialises in development plans for young players and has a close working relationship already with a lot of these Spurs players. Arguably, Kane is having his best ever season but doesn’t have much to show for it since a lot of his teammates are low on confidence – this is something Poch could fix.
It won’t be a difficult job for Poch to improve Spurs. The foundations are there and he knows the club well. It’s just a case of improving player confidence.
Who do you think will be the next manager of Spurs?
