Manchester United linked with former Liverpool gem, includes ironic clause

Manchester United appear to be in the market for a midfielder this summer. Of course, they need to replenish their options in this position, with key injuries proving to be their downfall – their replacement options simply aren’t good enough.
Erik ten Hag has a list of romanticised options in this position, including a player he knows well: Frenkie de Jong. However, he’s aware that finances may prove to be a barrier in this regard, so he has options elsewhere.
Ideally, Ten Hag would like to sign a midfielder who’s Premier League proven, but they tend to cost a bomb. Luckily, the Manchester United board have unearthed a bargain, but it could end up directly benefitting a league rival of theirs.
According to Telegraf, former Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic, is attracting serious interest from AC Milan and Manchester United. The Serbian outlet points out that Liverpool will receive 10% of any fee accrued for Grujic, as per their clause which they negotiated with Porto when he was sold for £10.5m in 2021.
Grujic is a regular for Porto, which is no surprise considering the potential he demonstrated at Liverpool. He was always on the cusp of first-team football under Jurgen Klopp, but world-class competition proved to be too much to break.
Funnily enough, if Manchester United were to sign Grujic, they would be paying a fee to Liverpool. Surely this is the last thing the Red Devils would want to do, since they know how much of a threat their league rivals will be next season should they fix their squad in the summer transfer window.
But, this is the game. And it’s probably a reason why the Reds included this 10% sell-on clause, because they knew Grujic would seriously rise in value after the sale.
Do you think Manchester United will sign Marko Grujic?
