Who will Manchester United face in the FA Cup semi-finals?
Manchester United have made their way to Wembley once again this season with a victory over Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals. In what can only be described as a tumultuous game, Erik ten Hag’s men fell behind, only to come back for a 3-1 victory.
The first goal in the game came via Aleksandar Mitrovic, who put Fulham ahead in the 50th minute. However, in a sensational turn of events, the visitors saw three sending-offs in the span of two minutes.
First, Willian was shown a red card for blocking Jadon Sancho’s attempt at goal with his hand. Then, Mitrovic was sent off for protesting and intimidating the referee. The forward put his hands on the official and shoved him in a feat of anger. In the process, Fulham manager Marco Silva was also sent off from the touchline for protesting.
The game turned on its head when Bruno Fernandes equalized for United in the 75th minute by converting a penalty. The second goal was scored by Marcel Saitzer when tucked, with a back heel, a low cross into the box. He became the first-ever Austrian to score for Manchester United. The third goal for the Red Devils was scored by Bruno in the 96th minute of the game when he blasted a pass from Fred past the Fulham goalkeeper.
The result now means that Manchester United will play Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Erik ten Hag and his men will take on the team who humbled them 2-1 in the first game of the season.
The two teams will face off on April 22 at Wembley Stadium in what will be only their second meeting of the season. Ten Hag will hope to etch out a better result against Brighton this time and avenge the painful defeat they suffered at the start of the season.
Several key players, such as Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, will seemingly be available for the game after they missed out through suspension and injury, respectively. Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho will also hope to return to action after suffering an injury against Southampton on March 12. However, United captain Harry Maguire will be unavailable through suspension after receiving a yellow card during the side’s latest outing,
