Speaking to talkSPORT last week, former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique made a name for himself by claiming that Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who he shares agency with, had already said yes to signing for Liverpool. Of course, when you combine Enrique and speaking about a new transfer, this is bound to get fans talking.

However, the most trusted Liverpool-based journalist James Pearce has come out of the woodwork to nonsense these claims. Speaking to the Athletic, Pearce has come out to say that “nothing is nailed on” and that Gravenberch is just one of many options to Liverpool. Of course, the priority remains to be Jude Bellingham.

This should come as good news to Liverpool fans. As much as they won’t like to hear this, Enrique is slightly irrelevant now, so of course he’s going to make outlandish claims to get his 5 minutes of fame. Truth is, Bellingham is a much better option than Gravenberch, as impressive as Gravenberch is.

Jurgen Klopp knows what he’s doing and he prioritises signing a midfielder. The dream is to sign Jude Bellingham, who is one of the most in-demand midfielders in the league. However, the Reds must first focus on securing Champions League football before they can secure signings like Bellingham.

Let’s not forget, Bellingham and Gravenberch aren’t even the only options for Jurgen Klopp. The German manager has already shortlisted Stamford Bridge contract rebel Mason Mount, who he feels could easily do a job in the ageing Anfield midfield. Therefore, it’s important that fans don’t get too caught up on just one name.

If what Enrique has claimed is true, then fans should get excited. However, I would take his comments with a pinch of salt as, let’s not forget, talkSPORT is more known for being entertaining, not necessarily informative.

Who do you think Liverpool will sign in the summer?
