There have been many failed Arsenal signings – particularly in recent seasons. Think back to the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix. All of those were top Emirates Stadium targets but ended up moving to rival clubs.

According to CalcioMercato, Arsenal plan to go back in for a former target of theirs – The report claims that Arsenal are one of three clubs interested in signing Raphinha from Barcelona, competing with Chelsea and Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta is a long-time admirer of Raphinha, being a fan of his from his Leeds days. Of course, Arsenal tried to sign him in the summer but he ended up going to Barcelona, meaning Gabriel Jesus, the backup option, was signed. The rest is soon to be history.

Raphinha is a phenomenal option as the Gunners look to build an unbreakable attack. With the recent signing of Leandro Trossard, they now have a plethora of options in the front-line. Signing Raphinha would mean great things, completing the depth in attack for the Gunners.

Arsenal’s depth looks much better with Raphinha in the squad

Here’s a quick look at how the Gunners’ depth in attack could look next season:

  • LW: Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard
  • ST: Gabriel Jesus or Eddie Nketiah
  • RW: Bukayo Saka or Raphinha

As Mikel Arteta looks to build on what will hopefully be a title winning season, depth will be his biggest asset. Bear in mind, the Gunners will play in the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17, and the first time under Arteta. Therefore, squad rotation will be even more important.

The signing of Raphinha is a logical one and could come at the perfect time. Barcelona are experiencing financial difficulties, meaning they might be more open to selling their valuable assets.

Do you think Arsenal will beat their competition to sign Raphinha from Barcelona?
