Manchester United faces Real Betis in the Europa League tonight. After miraculously knocking out the competition favourites Barcelona, United hope to continue their journey in the European competition.

United are favourites to win this match but they must field a strong lineup to maximise their chances. After being embarrassed against Liverpool in their latest Premier League match, Erik ten Hag is keen to put down a marker of intent in this match – the club are still serious about success this season and having already won the Carabao Cup, the Europa League is their newest goal.

According to Erik ten Hag in a Manchester United official press conference on their website, Marcel Sabitzer will not feature against Real Betis due to injury. The loanee came off the bench against Liverpool but, obviously, wasn’t able to make an impact – he did have some good touches on the ball, though.

Fans are excited when they hear Sabitzer’s name, however, as time goes on the excitement diminishes bit by bit. He struggled to make a serious impact on the midfield, having been signed to plug the hole left by Eriksen’s injury in this area of the pitch.

Playing in the Europa League would have been a legitimate chance for Sabitzer to prove a point to the United boss that he should be starting more consistently. Now he’s ruled out against Betis, it’s unknown when he’ll next feature in Manchester United red.

Ten Hag would like to have as many options as possible as he looks to field his strongest lineup in this match. Unsurprisingly, the boss has described Sabitzer’s injury as a ‘disappointment’. He didn’t go too far into detail about his absence so it’s unclear how long he’ll be out for but to be disappointed means he would’ve likely started in this match.
