Manchester United are down in the dumps right now. Although they’ve had a great season and shown the best form since the World Cup, that 7-0 loss to arch rivals Liverpool would have hit them hard. However, they’re looking to bounce back by improving the squad in the summer transfer window.
To strengthen, however, the Red Devils must first make some room in the squad by letting go of deadwood players and those who don’t fit into Erik ten Hag’s long-term plans. That being said, the club has listed 6 players they want to move on in the summer.
Manchester United reveal their 6-man sell pile
According to 90min, Manchester United’s sell pile is as follows:
- Harry Maguire
- Anthony Martial
- Scott McTominay
- Eric Bailly (currently on loan)
- Alex Telles (currently on loan)
- Dean Henderson (currently on loan)
There are some names on there which really catch the eye. While it’s no surprise to see Maguire being sold at this point in his career, it is a surprise when you consider the downward trajectory his career has taken.
Having originally signed at Old Trafford for £80m, people expected him to be among the best defenders in the league. He’s been far from it. Constant poor positioning and defensive errors have cost United at times since he signed, so it’s no surprise to see Ten Hag wants to recuperate some of the club’s losses.
McTominay is a bit of a surprise because he’s loved by the fan base but he struggles to get game time so from a career point of view, it’s best for McTominay if he finds a club that can promise him minutes on the pitch.
The rest of the players are no surprise, at least to me as a neutral fan. They are all injury prone and have no place in Erik ten Hag’s long-term project. Good on the club for coming to terms with that.
Do you think Manchester United are right to sell these players?
