Arsenal are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window. It’s been revealed that Declan Rice is at the top of their transfer shortlist as they prioritise his big-money move. However, they’ve been urged by former Hale End graduate Emmanuel Frimpong to sign another homegrown player.

According to FourFourTwo, Frimpong has encouraged Arsenal to sign Mason Mount of Chelsea. With Mount’s contract running out next year and not looking likely to sign a new one, Arsenal could sign him for a bargain price – while also weakening a league rival.

Mount has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge ever since Potter signed Joao Felix. Mount is a great player who has sadly fallen surplus to requirements due to Boehly’s resilience in the transfer windows of late.

For Mount’s future, it’s essential he moves away. He needs to find a club which can guarantee him two things: consistent game time and an individual development plan. Chelsea can offer him neither of those things due to hosting a massive squad. However, Arsenal can, and they will.

With Mikel Arteta at the wheel, the future looks bright at Arsenal. They have the youngest average squad in the Premier League, but have looked like the most mature side this term. They’re top of the table by 5 points and have already beat Chelsea this season.

Therefore, it’s the ideal destination for Mason Mount. He’s entering the prime stage of his career, so he needs to let go of his sentimentality. If we’re being real, there’s no place for him in Chelsea’s future. There could be a place for him at the Emirates Stadium.

Of course, it would be a risky move to sign both Declan Rice and Mason Mount, especially considering Jorginho was only signed last month. However, the Gunners have had injury concerns in the midfield this season, so you’d imagine they’d sign at least one of them to improve their depth.

Do you think Arsenal should take Frimpong’s advice and sign Mason Mount?
