According to the latest report from the Mirror, Arsenal have emerged as the new favourites to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli. The 24-year-old striker is Serie A’s current top goal scorer by some distance, scoring an impressive 19 goals in 21 games.

Osimhen is the most sought-after striker for the upcoming summer transfer window. Both Manchester United and Liverpool want to sign him, but it’s thought that British clubs would be expected to break the record in this region previously set by Chelsea at £106m (for Enzo Fernandez). If Napoli are to let Osimhen go this summer, they would expect upwards of £133m.

The Gunners are hopeful, though, of winning the Premier League and perhaps even the Europa League. If Mikel Arteta can win these competitions, revenue will be flying at the Emirates Stadium.

Besides, Arteta has given the Arsenal board all the more reason to trust his project and the Gunners do boast one of the best recruitment teams in Europe.

Osimhen would join a young group of players, some of which are the best in Europe, to continue the project. Next season, you would imagine Mikel Arteta has eyes on more silverware. Ideally, he would like to retain the Premier League next season if he wins it this time round, but he might have a sneaky eye on the Champions League, becoming the first Arsenal boss to win it.

Arsenal need to sign another world-class forward in the summer. While Eddie Nketiah has done adequately to replace Gabriel Jesus in the starting eleven, he’s tinkering out of form and is not near the world-class standard to make the Arsenal team regularly. Therefore, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s sold this summer.

What do you think, Gunners? Should Arsenal break their transfer record (currently held by Nicolas Pepe at £72m) to sign Victor Osimhen?
