Erik ten Hag is a very stubborn manager, but it’s worked in his favour for the most part throughout his career. Currently at Manchester United, he is giving the board all the reasons in the world why they should back him in the transfer window. Having already brought success this season, he’s aiming to achieve more by challenging in the Premier League, Europa League AND FA Cup.

You’d think a manager like this will be only looking ahead. However, it’s revealed he actually wants to rekindle with a former player of his. According to Talksport, Erik ten Hag is pushing for Manchester United to sign Frenkie de Jong, currently at Barcelona.

The January transfer window saw the same pursuit from Manchester United, however, they weren’t successful. Now, Ten Hag is going back in for his former player and he’ll look to take advantage of the obvious Barcelona financial downfall.

Manchester United are doing okay in the midfield department. Here they possess plenty of quality with Casemiro, Fred, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay. However, a number of these players are injury prone and it’s proven the impact which injuries in the midfield can have on the Red Devils.

Regardless, De Jong brings quality no matter where he goes. He’s been a success at both Ajax and Barcelona, but Ajax has been the pinnacle of his career so far. Ten Hag has a healthy working relationship with the midfielder, something which could be a pull factor to join the Carabao Cup champions.

De Jong got a taste of just how good Manchester United are this season. His side were knocked out of the Europa League at the hands of Erik ten Hag’s barmy army. Many dub him as one of the best managers in the league, and Casemiro as one of the best midfielders. Therefore, the proposition is certainly attractive for De Jong.
