Arsenal will hijack Spurs’ Harry Kane replacement by signing Serie A striker
By Kian Long
Arsenal look revolutionised from the previous summer transfer window, but they aren’t resting on their laurels. Currently favourites to win the Premier League this season, Mikel Arteta hopes to improve even more in the summer.
There are some areas of the squad which need replenishment. For example, the Gunners have done an excellent job at finding a temporary fix for Gabriel Jesus’ injury, but Eddie Nketiah is still not the top-level striker they need to compete for titles long-term. Furthermore, missing key midfielders such as Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny have revealed they need further backup in this position.
Arsenal plan to hijack this prolific Spurs transfer target
According to Football London, Arsenal are prepared to pay a big fee to beat any competition for Lautaro Martinez, the prolific Inter Milan striker. Competition from the Premier League will include Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Last summer, Inter Milan slapped a £70m price tag on his forehead. Given Arsenal’s reluctance to spend big, there are two options. They could use one of their surplus-to-requirement strikers (such as Eddie Nketiah or Folarin Balogun) to lower the fee, or use the Premier League champions card to persuade Martinez to push for a move there.
Either way, you have to admire Mikel Arteta’s resilience. Things seem perfect at the Emirates Stadium right now. They have the youngest squad in the league, have performed expertly both in attack and defence and even have players out on loan who are performing to the best of their ability. But still, the Spanish boss wants more.
The summer transfer window will be a big one. With Spurs currently fighting for top four, it could be a simple case of Martinez preferring Champions League football. Time will tell where his next destination will be.
