The Argentine goalkeeper left the club in bitter fashion as he cannot seem to keep the club that gave him multiple chances out of his mouth. In the end, it was Arsenal got the last laugh, and fans have been quick to remind him on social media recently.

The banter is completely justified from an Arsenal point of view. After all, Martinez did all he could to waste time in this match but his efforts failed as he scored an own goal and allowed Gabriel Martinelli an open net in the last kick of the game.

From a Villa perspective, you can’t blame Martinez for trying. After all, Arsenal were completely dominant throughout the match and piled on the pressure in the second half so it was the right thing to do. However, Emery himself indicated that he wanted his players to be honest and play the game in the right manner, never asking his goalkeeper to go up for a corner.
