Leeds United are still without a manager following the sacking of Jesse Marsch. However, they are still in the market for players with the club interested in Canadian Tajon Buchanan.

Buchanan is currently playing for Club Brugge in Belgium and this season has made 15 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring once with three assists. He also has one assist in five Champions League games. According to calciomercartoLeeds and Inter Milan have “shown interest in the 24-year-old” and  “the Belgian club is asking for 30 million for Buchanan, with a possible deal around 25.”

A transfer could only be completed this summer and Leeds is still in a relegation battle so there is uncertainty as to whether they will be in the Premier League or the Championship next season.

The Yorkshire side is in need of reinforcements on the wing, especially with Jack Harrison being linked with a move away from the club.

Buchanan’s career so far

Buchanan was born in Canada and spent his youth career at Brampton YSC, Mississauga Falcons and Real Colorado. He then moved to the USA for college and played for Syracuse Orange.

The Canadian then played back in his homeland for Sigma FC before being drafted into MLS with New England Revolution. He scored 12 goals with 11 assists for the Revs before heading to Europe with Club Brugge.

In total for the Belgian side, Buchanan has made 37 appearances, scoring twice and making six assists. He also has 28 caps for Canada and played in each of their World Cup games in Qatar.

There is much uncertainty at Leeds right now

It is a real possibility that Leeds might get relegated this season and this will affect Buchanan’s decision about signing for them. There is also uncertainty about who their next manager will be.

After Marsch was fired, the club’s first choice targets to replace the American have all turned the job down. They have even recently been linked with Harry Redknapp who has not managed since a spell at Birmingham City in 2017.

Redknapp has since become a TV personality and quickly squashed the rumours. The former West Ham United and Tottenham manager told talkSPORT, “I would do it but it coincides with Cheltenham (horse racing festival) week. I’ve got a couple of runners so I really can’t give that up.”

Leeds is currently being led by their U21 coach Michael Skubala and 90min has reported that he “could remain in charge until the end of the season.”

With Leeds in such uncertain times, Buchanan would not know what division they will be in or who their manager will be next season. The move to England with a club like Leeds will be tempting but if Inter is also interested then he might prefer a move to Italy.

Inter are a club that competes for trophies and if he will be able to continue to compete in the Champions League that. So Leeds cannot match this but can offer him likely getting more game time.

Leeds faces a huge six-pointer against Everton today, whilst Buchanan will be in action for Club Brugge against Cercle Brugge tomorrow.
