Spurs injury news – Rodrigo Bentancur expected to be out for the rest of this season…

Spurs have not had an easy ride of things. Not only were they absolutely humiliated by Leicester City at the weekend, but they also suffered a pivotal injury. Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been one of their most important players this season, went down injured and was subbed off in the 65th minute. The injury looked pretty bad, but Spurs fans hoped for the best.

However, Spurs injury news that broke today will not come as good viewing to those optimistic fans. According to the Guardian, Rodrigo Bentancur will be out of action for six or seven months following the knee injury he picked up against Leicester City on Saturday.

Of course, Spurs do have replacements. It was Pape Sarr who came on to replace him in the match. However, their strongest midfield pairing is Bentancur and Hojbjerg when they are both fit. To be without the Argentine is a big, big blow for Antonio Conte.

Spurs sit fifth in the table but Newcastle, who are already two points ahead of them, have a game in hand. A Champions League spot is the aspiration for Conte and the pursuit is still on. However, they must pick up a run of good form, something they look a long way from being able to do.

With Bentancur out for the remainder of the season, it will be a pivotal time to test the team’s mentality. Let’s not forget that midfield counterpart Yves Bissouma also needs to undergo surgery, and Tottenham have a Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Guardian think that Cristian Stellini, Spurs’ assistant manager, will start Pape Sarr in the match against Milan. Having featured for Senegal at the World Cup, he is used to playing on the big stage, however, his only start for Tottenham this season was the 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
