Going into any Merseyside derby, Everton fans remain confident. However, this time round, they have all the more reason to believe in their team. New manager Sean Dyche has lifted the spirits of not only the players but the fans too. His first game in charge involved beating the league leaders Arsenal, now he wants to continue winning ways against bitter rivals Liverpool.

Sean Dyche is known as one of the best English managers. Whether you like his traditional tactical approach or not, he is a cult hero and one who is the perfect fit for Everton’s bid to avoid relegation. A win tonight would truly boost their chances of achieving this objective.

However, Sean Dyche has been hard at work behind the scenes. He has made his first transfer priority known to Everton but it doesn’t involve bringing in a new player, instead it’s to keep one of their most important players.

According to the Sun, Sean Dyche has made it a priority to sort a new contract for England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Ageing at 28 years old, Pickford has just one and a half years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

Given his status, I could see many clubs lining up for him in the summer. When you look at clubs who need to sign new goalkeepers, including big London clubs Chelsea and Spurs, a homegrown talent in Pickford could appeal to them.

Pickford has made 20 appearances this season, keeping four clean sheets. For a club that is battling relegation, this is not a bad record. For the remainder of the season, Pickford needs to be focused, which is exactly why Dyche wants to sort out his long-term future.
