In what most would consider a must-win game for Manchester City, the Citizens fell just short away to Spurs.

Manchester City needed these 3 points. However, City falls short again and fail to score once more at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, adding to an already shocking record they have there going back to 2019. As mentioned in the predicted lineup piece ahead of today’s game, Tottenham has become a bogey team for City, somehow each game looks similar to the last. Anyways, here are my player ratings for the Manchester City boys against Spurs:

GK: Ederson – 6

Could do nothing at all to stop Spurs’ only goal. His Distribution was a bit below his standards but did make a few saves to keep the score at 1-0, keeping Manchester City in the game.

RB: Kyle Walker – 6.5

Walker did well to keep counterattacks measured, and remained in control for the most part when he had attackers charging at him. What can be said about Walker, and a lot of other Manchester City players is that he had too many sideways and backward passes. Partly down to Spurs’ impressive shape, but there was no testing with balls over the top, with the big runs we’ve become accustomed to from him. Tough game, but not the worst of the team.

CB: Manuel Akanji – 6.5

Akanji didn’t necessarily put a foot wrong, but just wasn’t exactly impressive today. He did manage to hold his own against Kane and was not at fault for Kane’s goal.

CB: Nathan Ake – 7.5

Nathan Ake was the best of the bunch in defense for City, possibly the entire team. He made many long runs against Spurs’ rapid attackers and came out on top just about every time. Another solid performance from Ake. I am still wondering where Ruben Dias is in this side, as he has been on the bench each of City’s last 3 matches.

LB: Rico Lewis – 6

Lewis looked like he was out of his depth at LB, something that is hard to blame the young lad for. He got bullied at times physically but did his best to not add to City’s problems. Passing was accurate, won half of his tackles, and managed 3 clearances. I will not fault Lewis at all for being thrown into an unfamiliar position.
