“He’s done it again” – How a certain Arsenal fan has predicted that Arsene Wenger’s comments in 2012 has resulted in them winning the league, 11 years later.

What a day it is for Arsenal fans. While they say you should never laugh at another club’s downfall – Manchester City deserve it. It’s clear they’ve paid their way to success. Fans everywhere are complaining about what Chelsea are doing in the transfer window but Man City have already done it a decade ago.

A quick look at the Arsenal subreddit and it’s clear to see the mood amongst Arsenal fans. Everything seems to be going their way, first Man City failed to capitalise on them dropping points and now there is a chance City will be deducted points, following the breach of Premier League rules. More on that here.

Arsenal fans think that, in some weird way, Arsene Wenger has something to do with this. In 2012, Wenger appealed to UEFA to fix the loopholes, as he feared that Manchester City and Chelsea would exploit them.

And now, 11 years later, those loopholes have come back to bite City in the backside. They got away with it for a long time and having overturned bans from UEFA before, this is a Premier League issue, and they won’t be as easily exploited as UEFA were.

It’s a complicated issue as it involves breaches from the past, but it’s very bad news for City. The punishment is yet to be revealed, but some outlets are even predicting expulsion from the Premier League.

That would certainly be the ideal punishment for Arsenal, although I’m sure they would happily take a points deduction.

It’s likely that no punishment will be given anytime soon, though. These things take time. However, even the threat of punishment is enough to cause a ripple at the club. For example, Pep Guardiola is already on the verge of leaving City given the news.
