Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech looked set to join Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day but the deal collapsed and the reasons for it seem surreal

According to multiple reports, Hakim Ziyech was set to join PSG on loan for the remainder of the season from Chelsea. As the clock struck midnight, Hakim Ziyech was reportedly already in Paris to finalize the deal but it was never completed, according to The Telegraph.

It is not uncommon for deals to fall apart as agreements on both transfer fees and player contracts can prove difficult, especially when the pressure of time is added. This was not the case for Hakim Ziyech’s proposed move to PSG. Everything was in place for the deal to be made official but according to ESPN, Chelsea had made 3 separate mistakes when submitting the transfer documents. Reportedly, Chelsea’s first document was nullified due to a mistake on it and the second document they forgot to sign off on everything. The last mistake was that Chelsea did not submit a deal sheet in time to give themselves an extended period of time to submit the document.

Fabrizio Romano has stated that PSG was left outraged over the mistakes made by Chelsea and they had sent an appeal to the Ligue de Football Professionnel in hopes of being granted extra time to complete the transfer but were not given the green light to do so.

PSG had spent the day working on completing the transfer after making no signings the entire window.

Ziyech would’ve proved an interesting pickup for PSG who have the best front 3 in the entire world with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. Ziyech could’ve proved additional depth for the Parisian side and perhaps even had a resurgence in his game stepping down a level in league.

It remains to be seen how Ziyech will fit back into the Chelsea squad, given he had expected to be playing in Paris now. With the addition of right winger Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk who can play on the right, Ziyech may find himself in a tough spot. Ziyech had played just 10 league games this season but funny enough has started Chelsea’s last two games in the Premier League. The Top Flight has predicted he will not start in Chelsea’s match Friday.
