With Joao Cancelo leaving Manchester City for Bayern Munich, his replacement could be Antonee Robinson from Fulham.

There is not long left to go in the transfer window with it closing tonight. However, there could still be some twists and turns in the merry-go-round of the transfer market. Bayern Munich has announced the signing on their official pages saying that they “have signed João Cancelo on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.”

With Cancelo moving on, City will need to replace him and Antonee Robinson could be their man. According to Ekrem Konur, “Manchester City are set to make an opening bid for Fulham’s 25-year-old left-back Antonee Robinson.”

Will Robinson be a good replacement for Cancelo?

There has been a lot of speculation on Robinson’s future recently. He has been linked with AC Milan and Inter Milan. The left-back came close to joining Milan on Deadline Day in January 2020 but the deal fell through due to a problem during his medical. Robinson will be hoping there will be less drama today.

Robinson has been in terrific form for Fulham this season who are currently seventh in the Premier League. He also played every minute for the USMNT during their World Cup campaign.

At full-back for City this season, Cancelo has played 26 times scoring twice and creating five assists. Robinson will need to add more goals and assists to his game, as he is yet to register one of either this season. However, he will have better players in front of him if he is to move to Pep Guardiola’s side. Therefore his stats should improve.

City fans will be disappointed to see Cancelo go but after a reported falling out with Guardiola, the player moving on may be for the best.

Is it the right time for Robinson to leave Fulham?

When a club of Manchester City’s pedigree comes calling, it would be hard to turn down. Under Guardiola, they have won the Premier League four times, the League Cup four times and the FA Cup once.

The Champions League is the only trophy that has eluded them. However, they are still in it this year and face RB Leipzig in the round of 16. Robinson has never played in Europe before and any player with ambition will jump at the chance to.

So far in his career, Robinson has been at Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and now Fulham. Moving to City would be a massive step up for him but the defender has proved he can handle it in the Premier League this year.

City is also still in the title race this year. They are just five points behind the league leaders, Arsenal. If they are to keep up with the Gunners then they will need to replace Cancelo and Robinson will have a tough job on his hands to do that.

Robinson is nicknamed ‘Jedi’ due to his love of Star Wars, it could be time for him to move to City and learn from a new master in Guardiola.
