Manchester United are… in the title race?

Manchester United are now in 3rd place in the Premier League, level on points with their rivals City and 8 points behind league leaders Arsenal. This all culminates in what should be a mouth-watering match on Sunday against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium in London. This will be a game you don’t want to miss. Here is my predicted XI for United as they look to close the gap at the top:

(4-2-3-1)

GK – David De Gea

This speaks for itself. You wouldn’t put Jack Butland into the fray here in such an important game. De Gea has had highs and lows in a Manchester United shirt, but has shown glimpses of his better days in red as of late, which earns him the starting shirt here in this match.

RB – Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Wan-Bissaka was once out of favor under new coach Ten Hag, but thanks to some improved form (and an injury to Diogo Dalot), he has come back into the fold a few years after his move away from Crystal Palace. He performed admirably in the Manchester Derby and has certainly regained some confidence that will suit him well going up against Martinelli on Arsenal’s left.

CB – Raphael Varane

Varane has finally started to show what many United fans expected of him when he first signed from Real Madrid. Injury struggles hampered his adaptation period to the Premier League, but Manchester United and their fans can now have more confidence in the Champions League winner at the back.

CB – Lisandro Martinez

Martinez has been a revelation and a reliable partner for Varane in defense for United. Helping to keep 8 clean sheets thus far in the Premier League, and holds a strong argument to be in the team of the season, especially if he keeps up his form.

LB – Luke Shaw

Malacia did very well for himself in the matchup against Mahrez and City, but the importance of this game and the environment that it will be played in, will be too much for the young fullback. Enter, Luke Shaw. When healthy this season, he has been solid to say the least, and Manchester United are going to need him to show up big time against Arsenal in this matchup.
