In-form Ligue 1 striker and Nigerian international Terem Moffi is becoming one to watch this transfer window
According to Sky Sports News, West Ham has submitted a bid of £20M (potentially rising to £25M) for Terem Moffi. Moffi is having a season to remember for French side Lorient as he’s scored 12 goals in 18 matches so far.
Moffi is attracting interest from multiple teams in the Premier League. Southampton had a bid rejected earlier this month and French side OGC Nice is also in the race, according to French paper L’Equipe.
Moffi has spent 3 seasons at FC Lorient now, joining the coastal side in 2020 from Belgian side K.V. Kortrijk. Moffi needs just two more goals to tie his season-high with Lorient, where he recorded 14 goals in 32 matches during the 20-21 campaign. Moffi has become a regular for Nigeria, making 9 appearances for the international side since the spring of 2021.
Should Moffi make the move to West Ham or another Premier League club, it will not be his first time playing football in England as Moffi previously spent time with Buckswood Football Academy which is based in Hastings.
West Ham targeting a goal-scorer is not even remotely a surprise as the East London club currently sits joint-2nd last in goals scored this Premier League season. Veteran striker Michail Antonio has just 2 goals in 18 PL matches whilst newcomer Gianluca Scamacca has 3 goals in 16. Perhaps West Ham’s 18th-placed position in the current table is not solely the fault of their strikers but it is clear that they need to inject more goals into the side to them ensure they survive relegation.
West Ham currently sits in the relegation zone, having scored just 4 goals in their last 7 Premier League games
Terem Moffi’s next destination at the moment remains a mystery but West Ham has stepped up their interest in the forward. Given that overpaying for players in January is common, £20M for Moffi could very well not end up being the final upfront fee and West Ham may have to shell out significant money to get their man.
