Manchester United linked with former flop who is now a world-beater

Manchester United think looking backwards will actually benefit their future.
Erik ten Hag is having a great time at Manchester United this season. Currently sitting 4th in the Premier League, his team are level in points but have a game-in-hand on Newcastle United in 3rd place.
But still, the Manchester United boss wishes to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window. Given his promising league position, he may be afforded more trust from the board in this window.
Having already been let down with Cody Gakpo signing for Liverpool and Frenkie de Jong pledging his loyalties to Barcelona, it’s the same question from the United faithful – who can we ACTUALLY sign in this transfer window?
And the answer to that could be a name which the Old Trafford fans know well…
According to Metro, Manchester United are being linked with a move for Memphis Depay, who already played at Old Trafford between the years of 2015-2017. However, current Barcelona manager Xavi insists he does not intend to sell Depay.
Depay had a bittersweet couple of seasons in Manchester. Having signed for the club in 2015, he was tipped to be the next big thing and even given the illustrious number 7 shirt at Manchester United. He did not live up to his potential, though, and he is now known as just another flop.
In recent seasons, Depay has taken immense steps to rectify his career. Playing at Lyon and now Barcelona, many recognise him as being the magnificent player he was before originally signing for United.
Throughout his career, Depay has proven he likes a challenge. Perhaps the biggest challenge of them all will be to return to Manchester United, under a manager who understands Dutch players well and make more of a name for himself.
At this point in time, the story seems sensational. However, if interest is there from all parties, then who is stopping it from happening?
