2. Roque Junior (AC Milan to Leeds United)

After winning Copa Libertadores, Champions league and FIFA World cup, Roque Junior was introduced to Leeds 2003 on loan and met an instant pandemonium on his introduction. Irrespective of his many attributes and accolades his welcome died quickly like starlight during Christmas. Leeds backline became extremely porous with Roque at the anchor.

He appeared 7 times for the Elland Road base team conceding 25 goals, failing to win and suffering six defeats. To rub salt in his wound he was sent off on his home debut against Birmingham City.

Leeds was eventually relegated from the Premier League in 2003 and Roque was considered a catastrophic flop for Leeds as a former World Cup winner.

1. Salif Diao (Sedan to Liverpool)

There were many break out players in 2002 World Cup and Salif Diao was one of them. His impressive play and commanding presence in midfield for Senegal placed him on the radar of several Premier League teams.

However, Liverpool was first to his signature and signed Diao for £5 million in 2002. After his £5 million move to Anfield, he was juggled around in various positions but just could not fit in Rafael Benitez first 11. During his tenure at Anfield, he made 37 appearances and scored 1 goal. He was loaned out to several clubs, but it was at Stoke City where he found his footing and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League 2008.
