Cody Gakpo completed a quickfire move to Anfield before the start of the winter transfer window in a deal worth £50 million

The New Year is here, so as the new rumors and new players in the English Premier League. The recent addition to the Premier League is the talented youngster from PSV Eindhoven, Cody Gakpo. Manchester United were heavily linked with the Dutch international, but the Anfield outfit sealed the deal for the 23-year-old in 48 hours.

After completing the move to England, the player is now eligible to play for Liverpool as the transfer window has opened. Liverpool are all set to play Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium on 2nd January and will look forward to closing the gap with the top four. Fans expect it to be a matter of time with the addition of firepower to their attack. But, the question remains amongst the fans. Will Cody Gakpo start against Brentford?

Before facing Leicester City at King Power Stadium, Jurgen Klopp sounded pessimistic about completing the paperwork to field Cody Gakpo against the Bees. The paperwork needs to be done on January 1st, 2023 for Gakpo to be eligible for the Brentford game. As the 1st of January falls on Sunday and the 2nd of January is a public holiday in the United Kingdom, there is less to no possibility for Liverpool to complete the paperwork and other legalities. This rules out Cody Gakpo from the game on 2nd January 2023.

So when can Cody Gakpo make his debut for Liverpool?

"There is a bank holiday on Monday and paperwork needs to be signed. Probably Wolves(Via: Metro)"
