Manchester City will sacrifice a failed project to land their chief transfer target.
Manchester City are no strangers to splashing the cash. As they sit second in the Premier League table, many would argue they have a perfect squad but it’s clearly not the case. Being five points behind league leaders Arsenal, it’s clear there are gaps in the squad that Pep Guardiola must address.
You would think the attack is not an area of concern for the Citizens. With summer signing Erling Haaland proving to be the best player in the league this season, things seem to be ticking from an attacking standpoint, or at least that’s how it seems to the naked eye.
But Pep thinks differently and he wants to bring in an attacker, with World Cup superstar Rafael Leao high on his radar. According to a report from Calciomercato, Manchester City are preparing a swap deal for AC Milan which will see Jack Grealish make way for Leao.
This might come as a surprise to the occasional watcher of football, as Jack Grealish receives a lot of hype. But those that watch regular Manchester City games will know this level of hype is not justified. Put it this way – he couldn’t get a start for the lacklustre England World Cup team.
Leao is a better player than Grealish, and AC Milan know it. According to the Calciomercato report, head coach Stefano Pioli is not keen on the deal, for two reasons. One of them being the age gap, as he feels like Leao will only improve over the coming months. The second reason being Grealish’s wage demands, which will be too high.
Both of those concerns are valid. Grealish is paid too much for his ability, but this is just the nature of being a Man City and England player.
Do you think Manchester City will be able to pull this transfer off?
