Arsenal in pole position to sign world-class midfielder from Serie A

Arsenal will take advantage of this golden opportunity.
Midfield is not a position of real priority at Arsenal. When you analyse their weak points, the midfield is never mentioned. In fact, the midfield three of Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard is near-perfect and is a contender for the best midfield in the league.
But Mikel Arteta is not one to settle for just ‘near-perfect’ – he wants perfection and anything less isn’t good enough for his incredibly high standards. Having expressed that his eagerness to take advantage of any golden opportunity in the transfer window, it would appear that signing a backup midfielder is on the list, but not as high as signing attacking players.
According to a new report from Express, though, Arsenal are ‘in pole position’ to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio. The 27-year-old midfielder is in the final 18 months of his contract, so he’ll be available in January at a cut-price.
When you consider the calibre of players which Arsenal are being linked with in this window (and serious links too, not just media garbage), it truly is terrifying. They are top of the league and have been the best team in England this season by some distance, yet they still wish to improve with luxury players such as Milinkovic-Savic and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Rival fans and critics will be quick to say this is a panic buy, but it’s not. The Top Flight reported three weeks ago that Arsenal were seriously interested in signing Milinkovic-Savic. In this article, he was dubbed as the best midfielder in the world by Lazio’s president.
While this superlative is highly-contested, he is definitely up there with the best. And this is exactly what Mikel Arteta wants. He doesn’t need players to fill numbers, he needs players of quality who are aiming for the same goal as him – perfection.
Do you think Arsenal will sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic?
