Manchester United are hard at work in the contract department.

When it comes to building a long-term project, which Erik ten Hag is aiming to do at Manchester United, keeping your best players is just as important as bringing in new signings. This is why it is good to see that Manchester United are hard at work in the contract department.

According to GiveMeSport, trusted sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has been informed that Manchester United are in the process of tying Diogo Dalot down to a new contract.

The news comes about as it looks likely Aaron Wan-Bissaka will leave the club. The Top Flight reported recently that the former Crystal Palace star may rejoin his old club. It is thought that United will sign a new right-back, but they are currently prioritising keeping Dalot.

Having recently triggered a one-year-extension clause in his contract, the Red Devils are eager to sort this out so he will stay with the club long-term. He is clearly a pivotal player in Erik ten Hag’s plans as he has played 20 times this season.

In addition to Dalot, there are other contracts which need fixing. Sport Bible reported that Marcus Rashford, Fred and Luke Shaw also had their additional-year triggers activated. Therefore, it would not be surprising to see the Red Devils offer these players some new contracts too as they are all important.

But for now, the priority remains to be Dalot. It is increasingly important for United to keep the POrtugal international tied down to a new contract, especially if Wan-Bissaka does leave the club. He will be excited by United’s new-found good form and the prospect of playing with a new teammate, so I expect these negotiations to go well.

Do you think Manchester United and Diogo Dalot will reach a new contract agreement?
