Arsenal are leading rivals Manchester United for this chief transfer target.
With January around the corner, Premier League fans are hoping for plenty of drama and action between clubs. Manchester United and Arsenal have already met this need by pursuing the services of Joao Felix, Atletico Madrid’s 23-year-old attacker.
But a new report from Daily Record has emerged. The outlet has reported that Arsenal are leading the race to trigger a potential loophole in his contract. Atletico Madrid are willing to loan out the Portugal forward for a fee of £8m in January – for a player of his quality and in today’s market, this fee seems measly.
And Arsenal are willing to pay it – of course they are. There is no obligation for the club to buy after the loan spell, but I cannot imagine Mikel Arteta is loaning him for no reason. If the loan spell prevails, Arsenal will have a great new attacker in their ranks – if it fails, then the worst-case scenario is that Arsenal will have temporarily replaced Gabriel Jesus, it’s a win-win situation really.
The Top Flight reported today that Manchester United had entered advanced talks for Cody Gakpo, which will benefit Arsenal. The Gunners are looking to be active in the transfer window, with Arteta confirming this in a recent press conference.
It is a frightening thought for league competitors. Arsenal are top of the table and easily the best club in England this season, yet Arteta is still wanting to improve and add more quality to his squad. Let’s not forget, the Gunners are the youngest average squad in the league this season too.
Signing Joao Felix only adds to Mikel Arteta’s philosophy. He is not an out-and-out striker, which is what critics will jump to say, but this is a good thing. Gabriel Jesus has been used as more a false-nine, with the wingers contributing to goals more. It’s worked and it will continue to work as far as Mikel Arteta is concerned.
Do you think the Gunenrs should sign Joao Felix on loan?
