Manchester United are wasting no time in replacing Cristiano Ronaldo.

In today’s section of Manchester United transfer news, fans have been given plenty of reason to smile. It is no shock that the Red Devils will be active in the January window, given the recent departure of their star-man Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to CalcioMercato, Manchester United have added a chief transfer target to their shortlist. It is reported they have chosen Goncalo Ramos to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in attack. The 21-year-old Benfica striker is valued so highly that his contract includes a £106m release clause, which is thought to be the only method by which Manchester United can secure his services this January.

Paying this price does feel rather extortionate, so this all comes down to how prudent the Manchester United board wish to be. We all know the Old Trafford club are no strangers to spending over the odds for players, so it would not come as a surprise to see them pursue a move for Ramos in the coming month.

He would certainly be a valuable addition for Erik ten Hag, who aspires to qualify for the Champions League next season. Having played 21 games for Benfica this season, he has bagged 14 goals and provided 6 assists, which is an astonishing record for a player of his age.

Manchester United are in no particular rush to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. After a terrific World Cup run and impressing in some recent friendlies, Marcus Rashford is brimming with confidence and can easily play in this position. Besides, we all know where Ronaldo has spent most of this season with United anyway – on the bench.

Furthermore, Ronaldo was actually benched by Ramos himself in the World Cup against Switzerland, when the 21-year-old United target bagged a hat-trick. Let’s not forget, Ronaldo was one of the worst players in this tournament too.
