Arsenal haven’t had the best of luck with their team selection ahead of the London derby against West Ham United.
Arsenal kick off the second half of their Premier League campaign against West Ham United, with the chance to go 8 points clear at the top of the table. This is only if they get their team selection right, though, which relies on an element of luck.
This is luck that the Gunners unfortunately haven’t been getting. The North London side already have the injury to Gabriel Jesus to address, but rumour has it, they may have one more.
According to prominent Arsenal reporter James Benge, Mikel Arteta is not likely to play Emile Smith Rowe as he is not 100% convinced of the players’ fitness. The good news is there has been no further setbacks and that in a way, the medical team are being sensible.
I'm told that the Boxing Day clash with West Ham is likely to come too soon for Emile Smith Rowe. There's not setbacks or anything similar, Arsenal and player are just taking their time to make sure he is 100 percent ready on his return.

However, it is frustrating. As fans, we have been awaiting the return of Emile Smith Rowe and while you can never rush healing, it really did feel like he would be available after the World Cup break.
In a way, though, this is a compliment to Emile Smith Rowe. The Englishman is an Arsenal youngster who fans want to see playing week in, week out. His work on and off the ball is truly a delight to watch, as he paces with purpose and drive with the ball at his feet.
He has not been fortunate with injuries and fitness throughout his short career so far but when he does play, boy does he play.
So, he will likely miss the West Ham United match but it is not a major blow to Mikel Arteta, as he would have more than likely featured from the bench anyway, with Martin Odegaard fully rested as he was not at the World Cup.
