Tottenham Hotspur are not waiting around to replace Hugo Lloris.

Hugo Lloris has had a stellar career. Granted, he has not won any silverware with Tottenham Hotspur, but with his previous club and national team, he has had a prestigious career. From winning the biggest trophy of all the World Cup to the Coupe de France with Lyon, his career can go down as a success.

Tottenahm Hotspur will consider themselves incredibly fortunate to have him between the sticks for a total of 11 seasons, but they are aware that he isn’t getting any younger. Ageing now at 35 years old, it’s time to start considering the future.

According to a new report from Football Insider, Spurs will look to build their English core as they consider Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a long-term replacement for Lloris. The England no. 1 performed well for the Three Lions before their exit at the hands of France.

The report raises an important question – why would Pickford join Tottenham Hotspur? And I mean this in the most respectful way possible. While there is still life in Hugo Lloris, Pickford would simply be a back-up choice. And ageing at 28 years old, he is in the peak of his career and needs to be playing consistent football.

Therefore, I think a January move for Pickford would be a long-shot, particularly coming off the back of an impressive World Cup tournament when the hype is high. As this could be Lloris’ last season in North London, I think a summer move would be much more appropriate.

Lloris is under contract at Tottenham Hotspur until the summer of 2024. He will be focused on the second half of this season as he’ll be aware it may be his last. He will be eager to push for silverware as a parting gift.

Do you think Jordan Pickford is the right man to replace Hugo Lloris?
