Manchester United are not messing around in the January transfer window.
The World Cup break has been the perfect time for Manchester United to analyse their season so far and what needs to change heading into the second portion. Currently in 5th place and only three points away from the top four, there are a couple of changes which need to be made if they are to finish the season strongly.
Many have pointed to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and claim the Red Devils need to sign a replacement. If we’re being honest, though, Manchester United have learned to deal without him throughout this entire season as he has mostly been on the bench anyway.
According to a report from The Sun, Erik ten Hag is plotting a sensational £200m swoop for both Jude Bellingham and Frenkie de Jong. If this is true, then Manchester United fans should be incredibly excited. Bellingham was one of the players of this year’s World Cup and ageing at only 19 years old, he alone would be enough to tilt United’s season in a positive direction.
Frenkie de Jong also had a good tournament with the Netherlands before they were eliminated. Providing an assist and scoring a goal, the Barcelona 25-year-old is entering the prime stages of his career and looking for a challenge elsewhere.
It is important to say though, that reports from the Sun should often be taken with a pinch of salt. While they are a large publication in England and more often than not, their stories do have credibility, they can be quite sensationalist sometimes.
I can certainly see some truth in the interest – who wouldn’t be interested in signing Bellingham and De Jong? Both are exceptional players and could walk into most European teams. Time will tell if the Manchester club is willing to break the bank, though.
Who do you want Manchester United to sign in January?
