Manchester United fans have heard this name many times before, but could it happen this time?
With the festivities in England in full swing, Manchester United will have one thing in mind when they return; the January transfer window. Sitting in 5th following a good run of form before the World Cup break, the Red Devils are in a good position to fight for a Champions League spot and improve the squad.
According to a new report from Mediafoot, Manchester United are considering a potential move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann. The 31-year-old has been high on the radar of Manchester United for many seasons now, so fans will hope to put an end to this saga by securing his signature.
Let’s not beat around the bush – Griezmann is entering the final stage of his career. Ageing at 31 years old, he isn’t getting any younger. However, this does not mean he is declining, as he shows no signs of deterioration on the football pitch.
Currently playing in the World Cup, his side France has reached the final stage of the competition, where they will face Argentina. Griezmann has been a huge aid to his country, not yet scoring but by providing three key assists, including a stellar ball against England in the quarter finals.
As far as Manchester United are concerned, they are in the market for a forward, following the bitter departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. But this does feel like a transfer which should have happened a long time ago, when Griezmann was at his peak.
Having only just signed permanently for Atletico Madrid, with the deal going through at the end of his loan period, Diego Simeone does seem to be using Griezmann more sparingly this season. Playing in a deeper role at this stage of his career, it is his creative side which shines through, and which United would benefit from most.
Do you think Manchester United will sign Antoine Griezmann?
